Yeah, I probably got a little too close -- this wasn't a telephoto lens I was using. I don't know if you can see it, but Momma bear had quite a scar on her back, I guess she isn't afraid of a fight.
I think I'd enjoy living in your neighborhood. That is truly living "in connection to nature." Those of us living "land locked in suburbia" forget to appreciate the awareness that kind of encounter brings to daily life.
We do live close to nature here, and I think it is good. We have everything from mountain lions to bears to rabbits to chipmonks. Still, it seems easy for a lot of folks here to take it for granted, or even resent it.
I think the lesson here is Benedictine attentiveness is a good thing to remember anytime; we should never take our surroundings for granted.
