A Muser's Library

A LIBRARY FOR MUSING AND THOSE WHO MUSE

Many spiritual masters strongly assert that the wisest approach to one’s reading is to select a few books of great worth and read them thoroughly.  As I approach retirement, I increasingly see the wisdom in this advice and, accordingly, I’ve begun the process of selecting those books that I think are of the greatest worth.  I don’t expect the list to encompass more than around 20 titles, the first of which I list below.

The Holy Bible, RSV-CE
St Benedict of Nursia
The Rule of St. Benedict

St. Augustine
Confessions
St. Augustine
The City of God
Max Picard
The World of Silence
Josef Pieper
Leisure the Basis of Culture
St. Bernard of Clairvaux
Commentaries on the Song of Songs
William of St. Thierry
The Golden Epistle
A.G. Sertillanges
The Intellectual Life
